Article Relating to Constitution

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2007-10-18/news/breathtaking-abuse-of-the-constitution/

1. It seems that the article was about somebody who violated freedom of speech.

"In a breathtaking abuse of the United States Constitution, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, and their increasingly unhinged cat's paw, special prosecutor Dennis Wilenchik, used the grand jury to subpoena "all documents related to articles and other content published by Phoenix New Times newspaper in print and on the Phoenix New Times website, regarding Sheriff Joe Arpaio from January 1, 2004 to the present."

2. The concept of freedom of speech is relevant.

3. The connection to freedom of speech was interesting.

American Icon Artist Statement

It was late at night. I was about 5 years old and I was watching TV in my grandparents' living room. I was watching an animated movie that I had never heard of before. The film was titled “The Secret of NIMH”. I couldn't understand much of the plot at the time, but I knew it was a story about a family of mice. When the movie ended I couldn't stop thinking about it. It was a film that left such beautiful images in my mind. I never forgot about it.

A few years later, I decided to watch The Secret of NIMH again after I had found it on DVD one day. This time I was able to follow the entire plot. As the movie played I was overwhelmed with nostalgia. It was a beautiful, deep, and touching film and I loved it.

The director of the film was named Don Bluth. I searched his name on the internet to find out if he made anymore movies. I was surprised when I realized I had seen a lot of his movies when I was young. I also found out that he was an animator who worked for Disney. Don Bluth was the director of other animated movies such as “The Land Before Time”, "An American Tale", and “All Dogs Go to Heaven”. I loved all of those movies when I was very young.

After watching some of Don Bluth’s films again I realized with animation anything is possible. Animators can use blank paper to create any kind of story they want. The artwork of Don Bluth and many other animators have inspired me to become a better artist.

Icon Artist Statement Opening and Closing

In a continuum of American icons, I feel that the majority of them could be considered inspirational to certain people. I think that whether or not someone or something is an icon is a matter of opinion. What some may consider to be an inspiring icon might be disliked and uninspiring in another person's opinion. I don't think one person can create a list of official American icons it's based entirely on someone's own opinion.

In my opinion most of the people I consider to be icons are movie directors, animators and or artists. One person I consider an icon is an animator and director named Don Bluth. I first saw one of his movies when I was about five years old. It was on TV and I had no idea what it was at the time, but I loved it. In my opinion Don Bluth's work is very inspiring.

1. I chose this opening because it states that whether someone or something is an icon or not depends on opinion and the closing describes who I consider an icon.

2. I stated that whether someone or something is an icon or not depends on opinion.

3. I would hope that someone who read my artist statement would have liked it.
